I run MainBoss Basic by using Windows Remote Desktop/Terminal Services to connect with a computer where the software is installed. Occasionally the session suddenly quits. What's going on?

In our experience, this has nothing to do with MainBoss itself. Remote Desktop itself will shut down under two reasonable common occurrences:

  • If you go several minutes without typing or using the mouse, Remote Desktop will "time-out". This means that the connection is shut down; the Remote Desktop software has decided that you aren't actually using it anymore, so it quits. The exact length of time before quitting depends on how Remote Desktop is set up on your system.
  • Many versions of Windows have a limit to the number of "sessions" that can be running simultaneously. For example, printing something on a printer requires a separate Windows session. So does using Remote Desktop. If your Windows system has hit its limit of sessions, and someone tries to start a new session (e.g. someone tries to print something), the new session may disconnect one of the existing sessions. The symptom you'll see is that Remote Desktop stops working.

    To avoid this, you may have to upgrade the version of Windows on the system to which you are connecting. For example, you may have to upgrade from Windows 7 Professional to Windows 7 Ultimate.
