Corrupted database files on Windows 95 network
Note: Recent versions of MainBoss Basic are not supported on Windows 95.
However, version 2.9 update 5 and earlier were supported on Windows 95 and Windows 2000.
Windows 95 OEM Service Releases 2 and 2.1 (OSR2 and OSR2.1) have a bug
that reports incorrect information to MainBoss Basic. Because of
this bug, Windows 95 occasionally gives the wrong size for a database
file, indicating that the file is shorter than it actually is. When
MainBoss writes new data to what is supposed to be the end of the
file, this new data actually overwrites existing data.
Microsoft has created a patch that will fix the bug. To obtain the
correction, click here, or search for the Microsoft knowledge base article Q174371.
