1.      Did you know: Using the Insert File command

MainBoss allows users to easily insert text into any description/comment field within MainBoss. For example, you are setting up a new task and already have the task description saved in electronic format on your computer (for example in a file called instructions.txt). Rather than cutting and pasting, or worse, retyping the information into MainBoss, you can simply insert the contents of the file into the MainBoss task description field. This applies to all description and comment fields – whether it is the comment field for an inventory item, a work order description or the comment field for a vendor.

Here is how you insert a file:

 

  1. Make sure that a file containing the information exists in .txt format (text file)
  2. Open MainBoss and the record into which you would like to insert a file of text. For example, click on Work Orders -> Browse Tasks -> Edit Task and click on the Description tab.
  3. Right click within the description/comment area and choose “Insert File” from the menu. For example, right-click anywhere within the white description area found under the Description tab of the Edit Task Window
  4. MainBoss will bring up a window in which you can locate the right text file by browsing folders on your computer, your external drives and your network. Choose the right file and click on Open.
  5. The contents of the selected text file are now placed within the chosen description/comment field
  6. Note: If the text file is bigger than the capacity of the description/comment field, then all of the text will not appear.
