1. Guidelines for getting the most out of training

Obtaining certified MainBoss training is key to the successful implementation and operation of your MainBoss program. Whether you are a new or long-time customer, attending a training session on a regular basis will allow you to keep up to date with new features and explore parts of the program that you had little or no knowledge about. But what most people don’t realize is that getting the most out of a training session involves a little more than just plopping down on a chair and trying to stay awake. The important thing is: Can you remember and apply what you just listened to for a day or longer?

If your company is spending the money and if you are dedicating your time by attending a training session, you owe it to yourself and your work that you take advantage of the expertise and knowledge our consultants bring with them.

Take this scenario for example:

Your company has purchased a training session and the consultant travels to your location. You enter the training room and sit back in your chair while actively listening to what is being said. When it comes time for excercises, you do them. During the question period, you ask a few questions and at the end of the day you feel very confident that you now know all there is to know about the program. The following week you get to work and try to create a task according to what you learned. But the steps are not so clear in your mind. In fact, the only thing you remember is that you click on Browse Tasks and then on New. Now what?

While it is expected that you are not going to remember every word that was said during the training session, it is still possible to retain a lot more of the information if you follow these simple guidelines:

  1. Arrive alert and on time.
  2. Bring a notebook and pen and take notes as the consultant speaks
  3. Don’t be afraid to interrupt and ask questions
  4. Do the excercises
  5. Participate in discussions led by the consultant
  6. Look through all the training materials given and if possible, follow along in the training manual as the consultant talks about each section
  7. Take breaks to clear your head and stretch your body
  8. Don’t let days or weeks lapse between the training session and your first time in front of MainBoss. Apply what you learned while it is fresh in your mind
  9. Know what resources are available to you: the training manual, the MainBoss user’s guide, your notes from the training session, the FAQ section on the MainBoss website, technical support via phone and email, co-workers, past newswires…become familiar with these resources and know how to get answers from them
  10. Make sure your company has purchased a technical support plan that allows you to contact MainBoss customer service in case you have any difficulties

Training sessions should be interactive and they provide a unique opportunity for you tap into a wealth of knowledge. Get the most out of the day and when your certificate arrives in the mail, you can hang it on your wall knowing that you have truly earned it. But better than a piece of paper is the confidence you will have in working with your MainBoss and in doing your job more effectively.
