1. @Requests and
MainBoss Backups
As all MainBoss @Requests users know, the program only works if it is running. In order for @Requests to be checking for new requests, updating logs and sending out acknowledgements, it needs to be open and running on a computer. Many companies see a need for @Requests to process work requests around the clock, so often they leave the program running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
When @Requests is running, it is also keeping the MainBoss CMMS data files open since the two programs are connected. This means that any administrative functions such as reindexing or creating backups will not work unless @Requests is shut down first. This especially becomes a problem when nightly backups are scheduled and, as a result of @Requests being open, these backups are not done for MainBoss CMMS. While it may seem an inconvenience to shut down @Requests for 10 minutes each day so that a backup can be performed of the database files, it could potentially save you months, if not years, of data entry. Not making regular backups of your data, for whatever reason, is like playing with fire. You never know when you might have a power outage that corrupts your data or when your server may go down, with no chance to retrieve any information from it.
Therefore, if you are a @Request user, please ensure that
regular backups of your MainBoss data are made! If your data becomes corrupt to
the point where technical support can’t restore it, you will be faced with
recreating your entire database from scratch. Not only will this take countless
hours of data-entry time to recreate, but you also lose all the history of your
previous work. MainBoss Support sees far too many cases where customers have to
start over because do not have backups. Backing-up only takes a few minutes and
your @Requests program will not ‘fall behind’ if you shut it down each day for
the few minutes necessary to create a backup. Please discuss this with your
MainBoss Administrator and/or IT staff. You are also welcome to contact the
MainBoss Support staff with any questions by emailing support@mainboss.com or calling
1-800-563-0894.
