1. MainBoss the solution provider: Get answers to your questions!
MainBoss can provide far more solutions to your various maintenance problems than you may think! Often users become so accustomed to doing the same actions in MainBoss that they forget all the other capabilities that the program has to offer. Due to continuously improving features and new add-on programs MainBoss has become a true solution provider for your maintenance staff. Please read on for a list of common questions or problems maintenance workers have and answers as to how MainBoss can help you solve them.
Question: I have all these work orders out there being worked on but have no idea which ones are overdue!
Solution: Easy! Just run the overdue work orders report available in MainBoss 2.9. This report quickly lists all work orders that overdue as of the current date (i.e the work end date of the work order is prior to the current date). You can find the report under Work Orders -> Reports or by clicking on the appropriate shortcut icon on the MainBoss speed bar.
Question: I am tired of having non-maintenance people call in with work requests. The calls don’t get recorded properly and we have no way for the requestors to find out the status of the work!
Solution: No problem. MainBoss gives the choice of two add-on programs that will allow users to electronically submit work requests: MainBoss Service Desk allows requestors to login to a program, which is installed on their computers, in order to submit a work request. The work request automatically appears in MainBoss. MainBoss @Requests allows requestors to use their email to send in work requests, which will also automatically appear in MainBoss. Requestors also get automatic email notifications. Call us to find out more!
Question: Everyone who knew how to use MainBoss has left the company and now we are stuck with a software program the new maintenance workers have no idea how to use!
Solution: Why not get a one or two day training session to help you learn MainBoss? Our training sessions are completely customizable and will get your maintenance department up to speed on MainBoss in no time. Call or email for more information!
Question: Whenever I have to print out work orders or a report I have to spend extra time defining all my settings. This is very time consuming!
Solution: MainBoss allows you to set some of the settings as the default. Just login as the administrator and change the settings of the report or the print window to what you need. Then right-click on the title bar at the top of the window and choose Save Settings.
Question: I am creating my preventive maintenance tasks in MainBoss but the data entry is taking up so much of my time!
Solution: We have two possible solutions! First, you will find a PM task library under the support section of the MainBoss website. Annual Support subscribers can browse through the tasks and cut and paste any information right into MainBoss. Keep checking back as we are planning on expanding this library. Second, why not let our capable MainBoss staff do the data input for you? We offer implementation services customized to suit your needs. Call or email to get more details!
There are many more solutions we can offer you. If you are encountering a problem or are trying to find a more efficient way of doing something, please call or email us and we will do our best to help.

2. Did you know: Removing additional labor/material lines from printed work orders
Printed MainBoss work orders contain, by default, three additional labor and material lines for maintenance workers in order to note down how long staff worked on the job and what materials were actually needed. Some companies however do not use these additional lines and they just take up extra space on the printed sheet. If you would like to change the default settings so that the additional lines don’t automatically print out, follow these instructions:
1. Login as the MainBoss Administrator
2. In MainBoss 2.9, go to Work Orders->Print Work Orders
3. Towards the lower right hand side of the print window you will see fields for additional labor lines and additional material lines.
4. Change the values in each field to reflect how many lines should be displayed (for example enter 0 if you would like no additional labor or material lines to show)
5. Now right-click on the title bar at the top of the window and click on Save Settings. This will ensure that the default settings are changed to your preferences.
